Ayahuasca Retreats in Europe

At Sinchi Runa, we strongly feel that Ayahuasca and other plant entheogens, while taken within a sincere and sacred context, are among the greatest gifts humanity can receive at this moment in time. We are so grateful to be able to offer Ayahuasca Retreats in Portugal, making this beautiful medicine available to more people around the world.

Through our Ayahuasca retreats we create a safe and sacred space that allows each individual to experience profound healing and spiritual understanding. Our groups are always small with up to 14 participants per retreat. This allows for a safe and genuine shamanic work to take place and for us to be fully present for each one.

With much gratitude we share this invaluable medicine, our plants brought from Peru, as well as our hope and love for humanity on this sacred journey.

Ayahuasca Retreats with Sinchi Runa

“Ayahuasca is a portal to the essence of humanity, a portal where all the memories and dreams of the species can be found. This opening can bring an understanding of the higher Self and the purpose of being, not only as an individual, but as humanity as a whole. Ayahuasca is a chance to heal the soul and reach the truth that lives within each one of us.”

Maestro Sanango

Retreat Structure at Sinchi Runa

Our retreats purposefully have a lot of space and silence to allow each individual to focus inward in their process. There is no ‘time’ on retreats, and you will be asked to deposit your phones, watches and electronics with us for safekeeping for the duration of the retreat. The aim is to free ourselves of the need to constantly ‘do’, and instead begin to ‘be’.

We open the retreat with an introductory talk with Maestro Sanango, followed by the purge ceremony. The days after that consist of ceremony days and rest days, where there are group talks, opportunities for 1-1 consultations with Sanango, and time for reflection and nature walks.

We close the retreat together on the final day with a sacred Fire Ceremony (Agnihotra), a sacrificial fire ceremony to seal the work of the retreat and to help integrate the healing and understanding received.

Silence and Contemplation in Nature

The major part of retreats at Sinchi Runa are in Silence, to allow each person to interiorize and go within. It is important to be able to detach from the usual “day-to-day” routines, habits, personal stories and external noise to be able to integrate the healing and wisdom through ones process with the plants. Disconnection with the exterior allows participants to concentrate all their energy on the healing process and gives place to observe their lives without interference from the elements that one way or another have created the circumstance they are living. We nurture and provide the space for self-observation, introspection, and contemplation.

The opportunity of a process with master plants is to become aware of and release what causes one harm and to understand oneself and one’s relationship to the entire movement of life and existence. This is a beautiful and challenging process of comprehension, reflection and silence that requires great willpower, dedication, honesty, sacrifice and pureness of intention.

Purge Ceremony (La Purga)

The healing with Ayahuasca in the Quechua-Amazonian tradition has always begun with the stage of the purge. This is the moment of approaching with humility the opportunity for healing and divine grace. The purge is essential in all “vegetalista” paths and can also be found in Vedic and Buddhist traditions, even if they are seemingly distant. The purge itself is a Ceremony that allows us to release, purify and get rid of “the bad” (lo malo).

A lot can be processed only through the Purge Ceremony, because it is already a complete shamanic act in itself, during which there can be visions, conflict resolution, harmonization, leaving of addictive confusions, letting go and release of what has been repressed. The act of vomiting itself has a profound symbolic and energetic meaning, releasing emotional armor to bring about openness. On the other hand, it marks the beginning in which the plants starts to “speak” to us, teach us and take us with them into their fantastic world.

All genuine spiritual paths must begin with the stage of purification; In order to comprehend, heal and grow spiritually we must dare to step out of our comfort zone. This requires an act that will always demand sacrifice. The purge in Amazonian Shamanism, can be linked to a religious pilgrimage or fasting taken upon the disciple be able to receive greater spiritual insight and awareness.

The purge is an act of humility and reconciliation with our essential being, an act to free ourselves from constraints of the ego as well as to prepare us to enter into world of Ayahuasca, or as Sanango says “the world of the Gods”. It is the act of letting go, using our human nature, defecating and/or vomiting, cleaning ourselves from the unnecessary, from toxins accumulated in our body, from feelings of suffering, beliefs and ideas that do not serve neither to our physical, mental nor spiritual being.

“Ayahuasca is not fugitive pleasure, fortune or adventure. It’s a seed for the wiracochas. Ayahuasca is a door, not to escape, but to enter these and other natures. To tour the provinces of the night, without distance, boundless.”

3-day Pre-Retreat Preparation Program (optional)

For those that have the space and wish to through a deeper preparation before entering the work with Ayahuasca, we offer a 3-day Detox & Preparationg program before entering a 9-day retreat. This program consist of a Full Kambo Initiation, Shamanic & Ayurvedic cleanses, and sessions to get deeply grounded and centered in your intention before receiving Ayahuasca. This Kambo healing and detoxification is a profund preparation before going into a healing process with Ayahuasca and Master plants.

Full Kambo Initiation:
The full kambo initiation is a deep work of cleansing and purification on a physical, energetic and mental level. It lifts heavy, stagnant energy, also called “panema”, and allows us to break through repetitive karmic patterns, lethargy, and emotional and physical toxins that keep us from moving forward in life with naturalness, joy and freedom. After the full kambo initiation there is often a sense of being reborn, of going beyond a point of no return, after which we are transformed and able to perceive life with greater clarity and strength of heart and spirit. We’re coming closer to our true selves and living in harmony with our purpose.

The kambo initiation also brings us into deeper trust, and mental and spiritual strength. This, together with new clarity and deeper seeing, can assist us greatly in the healing journey with Ayahuasca and the plant medicine.

Ayurvedic Detox diet:
A purifying and healing Ayurvedic diet is served, one that we often use in our processes with the plant work. It is a Sattvic diet, meaning it promotes a sense of calm, mental clarity, focus, and sense of well-being, making it very suitable for introspective processes where opening, releasing and healing is taking place. Over the course of the preparation days, this helps us enter a space of stillness, balance and reflection as we begin our retreat with Ayahuasca.

Diuretic plant medicine cleanse:
The diuretic cleanse is a specific selection of various plants that helps to clean the water in our body, blood, glands and urinary tract. Our physical bodies are largely made of water, and we store a lot of memory within the water of our bodies. The diuretic cleanse is another form of ‘reset’ that we always use in our longer retreats in preparation for deeper processes with master plants and shamanic diets.

Silence process with Intention and Grounding sessions:
Throughout the preparation days, we will have sessions and meditations to ground ourselves into our intention, and spend ample time in silence and solitude connecting to our hearts and stillness of nature in the nearby beautiful land. As we go into the retreat, we will be prepared to receive Ayahuasca’s wisdom with openness and trust, help us surrender and let go of apprehensions and fears, and open to the healing and understanding that we are seeking.
