Going through a process with Kambo at Sinchi Runa is a profound and transformative healing experience, with deep roots in the ancient traditions of the Amazonian jungle. As one of the most powerful purification rituals available within the realm of plant medicine, Kambo offers a unique opportunity to cleanse and harmonize the body, mind, and spirit.
Kambo is a resin from the Amazonian tree frog, Phyllomedusa bicolor. The resin is carefully scraped from the back of the frog without causing harm, while prayers of gratitude are sung to the frog, and the kambo spirit; the maestro, healer and intelligence of the medicine.
The medicine is deeply therapeutic, addressing not only physical ailments but also emotional and spiritual blockages. Kambo helps to purify the body by stimulating the immune system and detoxifying the cells and organs, and also offers profound emotional and energetic healing.
As with the plant medicine, Kambo works uniquely with each person, meeting us where we’re at, while the depth of the healing we receive corresponds to our unique needs as well as our openness, trust and receptivity. The experience of the purge—often manifested through vomiting, sweating, and at times shaking and swelling—is a physical expression of the deep internal clearing taking place.

Womb Healing for Women
Kambo also holds great potential for deep healing of the womb. The womb, as the sacred space where life is both conceived and nurtured, being a receptive space, carries much of the pain and trauma of humanity. In women, Kambo can be a deeply cathartic medicine, helping to release both personal and ancestral pain stored in the womb. This healing process can be intense and momentarily painful, but it is transformative, allowing an awakening of vitality, creativity, and sacred connection to Mother Earth and the gift of life.
Kambo serves as a powerful and cleansing preparation for a process with other plant medicines, particularly Ayahuasca. Its deep detoxification process clears physical and energetic blockages, creating space for Ayahuasca’s profound teachings and healing, helping us to be more open and receptive to her wisdom.
Since much cleansing that would otherwise have been worked through in the Ayahuaca Ceremony can be done by Kambo as a preparation, the medicine journeys has the potential to be significantly more profound after having received Kambo.
The Kambo Ceremonies at Sinchi Runa
At Sinchi Runa, Kambo ceremonies are held in a sacred and supportive environment, with the guidance of experienced facilitators who have worked with the medicine for many years. The ceremony begins with an introduction to the medicine, including time for questions and answers, followed by a short meditation to help set our intentions and open the sacred space.
Participants are invited to drink a large amount of lukewarm water, which prepares the body for the purge. The Kambo is then applied to small burns on the skin, and the healing process begins. The ceremony is supported by music, chanting, and careful guidance, taking care that each participant feels held, safe, and supported throughout the experience.
Kambo Initiation
The Kambo initiation consists of three ceremonies within a lunar cycle. This three-part process allows the medicine to work progressively deeper, cleansing and purifying the physical, energetic, and subtle bodies. Each ceremony builds upon the previous one, facilitating deep and lasting healing.
The initiation can help to break free from patterns that no longer serve us, karmic cycles, emotional blockages, and physical toxins. It is an initiation into a new state of being—one where we can live with greater clarity, vitality, and harmony with our purpose. Following the initiation, participants often share a sense of being “reborn,” with a deeper sense of trust in life and strength in themselves, ready to move forward with greater freedom and joy.
